Munchkin Review
Kill the monsters, steal their treasure, stab your buddy.
This simple line explains Munchkin perfectly. Munchkin is a card game where the rules are loosely based and the cards tell how they are played. The basic flow of the game is open a door ( one stack of cards ) and that card can be a curse that the player now has, a monster that must be slain or ran away from, or a special card that may be stashed away later to mess over a friend. If the card is a monster they player has the choice to fight it or run. This is where the best part comes into play. Other players can wheel and deal to help out fight the monster in exchange for some of the monster's treasure or just not to mess them over by helping out the monster. Killing a monster gains you level(s), treasure(s), and sometimes bragging rights. If you are killed by the monster you have to suffer the bad stuff. This can range from the crazy ( You lose your shoes because the monster drooled on them. ), to losing a level, to dying.
Death is not all that bad in Munchkin. You lose your stuff and everyone can loot your body, but you don't lose your level or class (wizard, warrior, thief, etc.) The level is the most important because everyone is fighting to become level 10. First one to level 10 wins.
This game is different every time. It is the perfect beer and pretzel game and every person that I have introduced it to have wanted to play again. This game is a standard and should be in every house that has a ex or current RPGer. It still can be enjoyed by all, but is enjoyed even more by people with a history of role playing games.
